Augmented Sculpture

If all sculpture raises awareness on our perception of space, that of Pablo Valbuena is ever more captivating since it is in constant transformation.
Augmented Sculpture #1 is focused on the exploration of altering multiple dimensions of space-time.  The volumetric base that constitutes the physical body of the work proposes a direct exploration of space transformation by serving as an anchor for a next second layer. The latter, virtual rather than physical, is the place where light and music each sculpt the space.  The over-layering of the two levels produces an Euclidean three-dimensional space resulting in the capacity through the installation of altering multiple dimensions of space-time.
The observer placed before the work is confronted with the central theme of Le Corbusier’s “Architectural Promenade”: one experiments space, while being faced with the problem of his relation to the worldly dimension.

About Pablo Valbuena
(Madrid, Espagne)

Pablo Valbuena studied architecture at the Madrid Polytechnical University.  Later, he developed digital architecture for videogames and for film studios in Holland, Spain, the United States and Canada.  This previous background in experimental architecture has influenced his artistic work without making it an absolute study of technology, as embodied in Augmented Sculpture #1.  Going against the trends that strive for cutting edge interactivity and complexity, he challenges himself to keep it original but as simple as possible, while seeking a provocative and active contemplation by the onlooker.

He is currently working on solo artistic projects that interweave space, time, and perception.

The first stage of this project was developed during Interactivos? 2007 workshop at Medialab Prado (Madrid)
